At the beach

We’re back on the road again, having another week away from the cold weather back home. I guess thats one of the lovely things about being retired, you can just decide to go away on the spur of the moment and off you go!

We’ve been in Coffs Harbour and the weather here is perfect.  Neither of us have been here before and we’ve been impressed with how quiet and laid back it is despite being a popular tourist destination.

We’re staying across the road from the beach so we’ve been out early to watch the sun come up each day.

You can hear the ocean all the time which is really lovely at night-time.  Theres lots of walkways and places to sit, we’ve been sitting outside for breakfast and lunch enjoying the views.

Yesterday we went up to the Forest Sky Pier which had the most incredible views of the coastline. The lookout bridge goes out over the rain forest & moves in the wind.

It’s not possible to get the whole view in one picture, this is about a third of it.

We have another day here and then we’re off to Tenterfield for a look about. Today we’re going down to the jetty & to Mutton Island Nature Reserve. I’d certainly come back again and perhaps stay longer next time.

Well its almost time for another sunrise so I’m heading back to the beach for a while.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge -Pink

The colour for Aprils Rainbow Scrap Challenge is pink and I have a lot of pink in my scrap bins. I’ve made some more blocks for my Carolina Chain Quilt.

Blocks with light centres…

The last week I haven’t done a lot of sewing as I’ve been decluttering around the house and folding more fabric onto comic book boards. Almost all the fabric is sorted now and it certainly helps me see what needs to be used up and what colours I have plenty of.
I’ve started walking again in the mornings & this is the view on the path I’ve been walking this last week. The trees are all starting to change colour and the weather is perfect. It’s so nice to not have to rush back home to get to work on time anymore. I can leave a bit later and just take as long as I like – retirement is good!

Linking up to So Scrappy  & Quilting is more fun than housework.

A trip to the park

We went for a visit to the local park after work for a bit downtime and to just soak up the beautiful view and the peaceful atmosphere after a very busy day at work.

The park was opened in 1890 and was designed as an English country town park despite the very different weather conditions between Australia and the UK. Its just a beautiful place and has many big, old trees that were bought out from England. Right in the centre of town, its just a very big part of local life.

Some of the garden beds were being replanted, others were in full bloom.

The bandstand sits in the middle of the park and still used for musical events. Its a popular place for wedding photos.  There a beautiful old fountain, a duck pond, a fernery & a begonia house. Its just beautiful!

I sometimes think about the people who designed and planted it back in the 1880’s. Trying to grow an English garden in the hot Australian weather. Having the imagination to ‘see’ how majestic those huge trees would look years into the future and possibly trying to bring a little bit of Mother England back into their lives.  We spent about hour at the park and I felt much better for it.
