Catching up & a few more blocks.

Last week we all ended up sick – fortunately not with covid, or the flu but the last few days I’ve just been resting/sleeping on the lounge all day. Today I’m feeling a lot better and have been up and about getting things done again.

I did get a few more blocks done for Summer in the Country:

I have the rest of the blocks cut out ready to sew. I’m looking forward to seeing this quilt top completed, its such a bright happy pattern.

DH and I are starting to work out new routines to our days together. Mostly its work about the house, having a leisurely morning tea together out on the front verandah when the weather is nice and planning our trips to the shops or to do errands together. I am enjoying this more relaxed pace so much 🙂

This morning DH finished changing all our door handles over to lever handles instead of doorknobs. They look great and they are so much easier for me to use. I have arthritis in my hands and have found it difficult at times to turn the door handles.

I’ve been plodding away at decluttering so we took 8 bags to the op shop today and stopped off at Bunnings on the way home to get some potting mix and some geraniums that were marked down. I’m planning on starting some seedlings this week but I cannot remember where I put the packets of seeds! As my family say – I put them in a safe place, I just don’t know where that is! If I have also been saving some seeds from my veggies and some cuttings. Vegetables are getting so expensive it just makes sense to grow them to save a bit of money and growing the from scraps saves even more. Do you grow veggies from scraps or have a veggie garden?  If so what do you grow – open to suggestions – I am cold climate NSW.

Summer in the Country blocks

I’ve been working on my Summer in the Country quilt blocks over the last week. I’m really happy with how the blocks are looking, its a lovely pattern to work on.  Here’s the new three completed blocks and I have four more cut out to sew up over the coming few days.

Picnic Star – a definite favourite – this would be a great block to do a whole quilt top with.

and Firefly

I had to call into work briefly this morning to drop something off and I really noticed how rushed everyone was and so busy. I felt a bit out of place really. Made me realise how much I’ve slowed down and moved on from it.

DH and I have been enjoying sitting out on the verandah having coffee at morning tea time, just relaxing and talking. I’ve decided that we’ll make sprucing up the verandah our first project now that we have time to sit out there during the day. It needs a good clean up, some new chairs and pot plants and some pressure cleaning to get rid of the spiderwebs and clean the old concrete. We have a lot of work to do on our house and garden but we’re just going to take our time, not try and get it all done fast and wear ourselves out.

Well, time for me to enjoy a bit more sewing before dinner – I have so many projects I want to work on and the list keeps growing.

RSc- Blue & 3 months of retirement!

It three months since I retired and I certainly feel better, sleep better and feel more content than I can ever remember feeling feeling before.

The last three months I’ve really just done whatever I felt like each day. Most days that’s some sewing, or watching a TV series, going for a walk and doing a bit of decluttering.  What I love most is that there are no deadlines to meet and no morning rush to get things done before leaving the house – my time is my own!

DH retires at the end of next week and we have a small trip away planned in a few weeks and a longer holiday to Tasmania planned for November to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary as we visited Tassie for our honeymoon, so we’re going to have some fun and revisit the places again. I’m really looking forward to it!

I am feeling like I want to have a bit more routine, which will be easier to plan once DH has left work. I also might go back to some sort of monthly goals as keeping monthly progress reports over the last five years really helped me to keep on track. Now I’d just be tracking different things like renovations, gardening and sewing projects.

I’ve done my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks for June in blue:

I also had these blue four patches,

so sewed them together into a centre square and put a dark blue border

I cut more 4″ squares from some pale blue scraps and some striped fabric and after joining them cut it diagonally to give me four triangles

I joined the triangles to the centre square, then added two more borders to brighten it up and get it to the right size for a donation quilt

So thats one more top finished, added to the ‘to be quilted’ pile.I think I’ll use dark blue binding.  I really enjoy playing with scraps and making up blocks or tops without a pattern.

Well, its a beautiful winters day here with the sun out and a perfect blue sky. I’m off to have a walk and then I need to do some decluttering in my sewing room and sort out my sewing projects.
